Peter C. Ng, MD, FACS, FASBMS
Dr. Ng, a Raleigh native, is an expert in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery and teacher of single-incision and hidden-scar laparoscopic techniques. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a fellow of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Lindsey S. Sharp, MD, FACS, FASMBS
Dr. Sharp, a Virginia native, is the medical director of bariatric surgery services at Rex Healthcare. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery, a fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and a fellow with the American College of Surgeons. He also belongs to the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.

Dustin M. Bermudez, MD, FACS
Dr. Bermudez, a native of Massachusetts, is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and fellow with the American College of Surgeons. He belongs to the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. He has published papers and presented at national meetings about wound healing and weight-loss surgery.

Tricia Burns, PA-C
Tricia Burns, received her undergraduate degree from The College of St. Rose in Albany, NY before completing the Physician Assistant Graduate Program with a surgical focus at Cornell University Weill Medical College in New York. Ms. Burns is an experienced physician assistant with experience in bariatric surgery, plastic surgery and neurosurgery.
Erica Mckearney, PA-C
Erica McKearney, an Oregon native, earned her undergraduate degree from Oregon State University. She earned a masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Methodist University in 2011. She worked as a Physician Assistant in urgent care and family practice for five years before joining Rex Bariatric Specialists in 2016. She enjoys reading, hiking, walking her dog, and spending time with her friends and family.
Jillian Vari, PA-C, RD, CNSC
Jillian Vari, PA-C, RD, CNSC received her undergraduate degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. She earned her masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies from James Madison University. She worked as a Registered Dietitian in bariatric surgery, general medicine, and inpatient surgery for 5 years prior to returning to PA school. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, running, and being outdoors.
Afton Carducci, MMS, PA-C
Afton Carducci, MMS, PA-C received her Master of Medical Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Lincoln Memorial University – DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed additional surgery specific training at the WakeMed Surgical Physician Assistant Residency Program in trauma, gastrointestinal surgery, intensive care and orthopaedics. After residency she worked in a surgical practice focused on colorectal and general surgery prior to joining Rex Bariatric Specialists in 2018.
Krista Herrell, R.N., B.S.N.
Krista Herrell, R.N., B.S.N. works with patients from their initial consultation, through surgery and beyond to make sure that patients have the resources and support needed for successful weight loss.
Mary Gray Hutchison, M.P.H., R.D., L.D.N.
Mary Gray Hutchison, M.P.H., R.D., L.D.N. is a graduate of NC State University with an advanced degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has been providing nutrition therapy and education in the Raleigh area since 2008. She has been working with weight loss surgery patients for most of her career. She has a passion for facilitating group classes, grocery store tours and cooking demonstrations.
Lauren Massey, BSN, RN, CBN
Lauren Massey, BSN, RN, CBN, a North Carolina native, received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. Before joining REX Bariatric Specialists, she was a nurse for bariatric surgery patients and was the bariatric coordinator at UNC REX Healthcare. Lauren enjoys helping patients succeed with their weight loss journey by providing pre and post-surgery guidance. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, watching movies, and taking care of her two fur babies, Felix and Fiona.
Caroline Pope, M.S., R.D., L.D.N.
Caroline Pope, M.S., R.D., L.D.N. received her Master of Science in Nutrition from Meredith College in 2014. Helping this population achieve life changing success has been her dream since receiving an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A Raleigh native, she has a long background in fitness coaching and enjoys encouraging behavioral change and mindfulness in nutrition therapy.
Margaret Roberts, MS, RD, LDN
Margaret Roberts received her master of science in Nutrition from the University of Pittsburgh. She has provided nutrition counseling within a variety of environments, including a weight loss surgery practice, cardiac rehabilitation, and a dialysis clinic. She enjoys seeing the positive ways that nutrition can impact a person’s life. She moved to Raleigh with her husband, cat, and English bulldog to escape the cold Pittsburgh winters.
Lauren Boulus, MS, RD, LDN
Lauren Boulus, MS, RD, LDN is a graduate of N.C. State University, with a master’s degree from Meredith College. She has a background of providing nutrition therapy in the clinical setting, as well as counseling and providing education classes for a cardiac rehabilitation program. A Raleigh native, she has a passion for improving the lives of others with nutrition.
Amanda Hopkins, MS, RD, LDN
Amanda Hopkins, MS, RD, LDN is a Penn State graduate and received a Master of Science in Nutrition from Meredith College. She has experience working with patients in the clinical setting and interned with Rex Bariatrics in 2015 while obtaining her master’s degree. She is passionate about helping patients make nutritional and behavioral changes to improve their overall health. In her spare time, Amanda enjoys yoga and experimenting in the kitchen.
