WHAT IS ENDOSCOPIC SLEEVE GASTROPLASTY (ESG)?

ESG is a procedure performed endoscopically by a gastroenterologist or surgeon that uses a small suturing device and camera to reduce the size of the stomach from the inside.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The procedure reduces stomach capacity and slows gastric emptying.

HOW IS ESG DIFFERENT THAN TRADITIONAL BARIATRIC SURGERY?

ESG is performed endoscopically, meaning there are no incisions or scars, and most patients can go home the same day.

HOW MUCH WEIGHT DO PATIENTS LOSE?

In a randomized trial, patients undergoing ESG lost 13% of their total body weight at 1 year, and the majority of weight loss was maintained out to 2 years.1

WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL POSITIVE HEALTH IMPACTS OF ESG?

In a US randomized trial, 61.1% of patients with Type 2 Diabetes lost at least 10% TBWL1 and 70.0% showed improvement in their diabetes, as determined by their doctor.2 In that same study, 59.5% of patients with hypertension lost at least 10% TBWL1 and 64.3% showed improvement in their hypertension, as determined by their doctor.2
